“First time I’ve ever experienced a pilonidal cyst was when I was about 18. I would get it once in a great while and it would always just go away on its own. Fast forward to when I’m 26 and it came back with vengeance! I am not fond of going to the doctors, hospitals, etc. but it got to the size of a golf ball and the pain became unbearable so I decided to go to the doctor and have it looked at. Turns out I had a pilonidal abcess and had to have it lanced. She gave me two locals before lancing (which neither of them took because it was so infected) so I had to bite the bullet, suck it up, and endure what was about to come… which was the second worst pain I’ve ever felt… (1st was childbirth lol). So there I was… 4 months pregnant, lying on the table with my ass up in the air while the doctor and her assistant are going to town on my backend! As soon as she cut it I could hear and smell all the pus and infection erupting from my abcess. She continued, for what felt like an eternity, to drain it. Once she was done she packed it up with gauze and bandaged it up. I was extremely sore for the next few days after. I went back for a checkup and to remove the gauze about a week later and I finally felt relief! About a year later, I felt very tender and sore, and sure enough it had returned! But once it got to a certain point it actually burst and drained on its own. I still constantly get them to this day. I could get the surgery but even that isn’t guaranteed, it can still come back. So I pretty much just suck it up and deal whenever it decides to come back.”
