“I’ve posted before, while I just experienced my first draining. That was at the beginning of February 2015. Now, its nearly half way through March 2015 and I am 5 days post op (actual pilonidal cyst excision) and everything is great. All in all I am a lot luckier than a lot of people on here, some of the stores I’ve read make me so thankful I didn’t wait long to get my cyst taken care of. The first time I found out I had this cyst was in the beginning of November 2014, but the actual knowledge of something in my tailbone area started in September 2014. Any who, when I first had the cyst checked out by my doctor, it was small enough to be treated with just an antibiotic. it went away, just a small hard ball remained. Then at the end of January 2015 it came back, so fast and about twice as big. This one actually surfaced, it looked like s blister. It was swollen, red on the outside and towards the middle it had a yellow tint. It got so bad I couldn’t walk or anything – it was crippling. I had no choice but go to the doctor and get it drained – THAT was HORRIBLE. worst thing I have ever experienced in my life. SO painful. It drained rather fast and scabbed up quickly, in two weeks I had no more leakage or anything, just minor soreness. I know at this point people are like “okay- its gone Im done” and carry on with their life only to have it come back sooner or later. I couldn’t risk getting it back since I am just about to graduate high school and go off to college – I can’t be held back like this again. So, about 4 weeks post drainage, I went in and had the source of the cyst taken out. And, if I might say so – It was a great decision. I was fortunate to have my cyst shallow and small. Im also fortunate for having such a wonderful surgeon. He was so gentle and promising from the second I met him right after my drainage. I was put under anesthesia – so I was only awake for the insertion of my IV. They walked me into the surgery room, I was put on a comfy bed, given a pillow and warm blankets. it was hectic for about 3 minutes, while the whole team of nurses and doctors connected me to wires and prepped everything. Next thing I know Im waking up in recovery! I was actually up and walking hours after I got home (I had to sleep off the rest of the anesthesia). I do have my incision stitched closed, so I think thats why I’ve bounced back so fast. I did have a minor set back – turns out Im allergic to the pain killer I was prescribed! It made me super sick for 3 whole days, I was in more pain because of that than because of the incision! Now, day 5 and Im no longer suffering from the bad reaction and Im completely fine – and I’m not even on any pain killers at all now! the only actual struggle right now is using the bathroom, bowels aren’t moving slowly, but with laxatives and stool softeners and watching how heavy the food I eat is – Im getting by. Im able to sleep on my side, and occasionally sleep on my back with a pillow under my bottom and under my back, sort of lifting me off my bed where my incision is. I will be going back to school in 3 days, and Im getting my stitches out next week. I am grateful of having a much more fortunate situation than most. My tip is to take care of yourself as much as you can, and as fast as you can at first notice of the cyst. don’t wait long after your discovery to get the actual surgery. I am being honest in saying the only gruesome part of this whole journey is the draining if you have a very minor case like me. I can’t speak for others who have worse. But take it from a 17 year old girl who suffers from the worst anxiety disorders – it will be okay!”
