“mine all started at 15, I’d been out with friends and started experiencing pain in my tailbone, the pain was getting worse and worse, I noticed it when sitting on the floor so thought I must of hurt my tailbone, I went to the doctor and she said it was a fractured tailbone (nice misdiagnosis) she gave me pain relief and told me to come back to have it manipulated by a different doctor, which I was very scared of, I’d never heard of polidinal cysts or the disease, I got home in agony could hardly move or walk, the next morning I woke up at 6am in the so much pain I got up went to go to the toilet and woke up ten minutes later on the floor realising I’d passed out and fell through the bathroom door, I was pretty bruised and sore and had a few wounds to the face which I wasn’t too happy about but still couldn’t figure out what was going on with my body, when I eventually tried to get back to back I was constantly vomiting and was burning up, I thought it was the medication all I could feel on my tailbone was a large lump which I figured must just have been swelling from around the bone after a long and very painful 3 days, I noticed blood, pus and a awful smell coming from my tailbone I rang a doctor and was told to immediately get to the hospital where a consultant told me I had a polidinal cyst and would need emergency surgery, the infection had spread around my body (septicimia) and if I wouldn’t have got there the way I did the infection would have done some serious damage, I was put under a general anaesthetic they operated and everything seemed to go well, the nurses would come out to pack my wound everyday it was sore but a relief compared to the pain I experienced before it was treated!, 6 months later I’d been fine when I noticed a lump on my tailbone again, I went straight to the doctor and told them about what had happened the last time and they gave me antibiotics to try and stop it, which clearly didn’t work as I soon ended up back in hospital having the same surgery again, they found around five sinus tracts which I have an appointment next month to see how I’m doing and to plan my next surgery to try and eliminate these sinus tracts and stop this horrible disease from doing this to me again, my wound still has not healed after 3-4 months and I’m still having to use creams and dressings. I’m glad there are other females out there with this, now I understand it’s not just a hairy man’s disease haha, I sympathise with everyone that suffers with this I understand how painful it can be, not just physically either but living with the scars also makes me upset too knowing I’ll never look normal in that region again, I honestly feel such a wimp knowing that I have doctors and surgeons helping me manage this horrible disease thankfully being from the UK I don’t have to pay for my health care and others like many of you don’t have free health care but still manage to do a lot of the things alone that I’d need a nurse to help me with, you must be some strong people.”
